Three Turkeys

We had a great Thanksgiving break. I was in sore need of a break from work and this week was just what the doctor ordered. I got a lot done around the house and the girls really enjoyed their time with Colten this weekend. Even though we have a trampoline, swing sets, horses, etc, the children had the best time playing on the back of Poppy's huge trailer he uses to haul tractors. They literally played for HOURS on that thing. We are SO ready for Christmas around here. Addie Belle sings Hark the Herald Angels Sing all through the year, so she is particularly excited! I have a rough week ahead but I'm looking ahead to Christmas break!  I think I can I think I can!

Gettin' our Turkey on!

Just a few pics from a fantastic week...
Can't believe we were wearing flip flops on Thanksgiving Day, but we've had a fire in the fireplace at night and in the morning. What is UP with that?

Addie Belle helped me get one of the Christmas trees decorated. This one isn't the prettiest one but it has all of my old childhood ornaments and ornaments the girls have made in school. Unfortunately, one of the light sets doesn't work this year so I'm going to have to do some creative lighting soon.

The girls were soooo excited to hear Nanny and Poppy finally returned from their trip to Kansas. They love to ride their bikes back in forth between our houses several times a day.

The mudroom is making progress. Pete got the trim up around the windows and caulked. Hopefully painting and shelf building tomorrow!

The girls can't wait to see their cousin Colten tomorrow and I am looking forward to watching the Dawgs and getting some decorating finished. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Today Pete and Ali Grace went off galavanting and Addie and I started getting some Christmas decorations down. We were making great progress until a mysterious package arrived in the mail... from Aunt Bonnie! Aunt Bonnie goes to huge dress sales in Richmond and shows no restraint whatsoever. The girls reap the benefits! They modeled their new dresses all evening. There was a box full of dresses and they had a wonderful time trying them on and then flitting around showing off their best "Toddlers and Tiaras" moves. (Their words not mine).

Even Ali Grace who isn't normally the dress wearing type, got in on the fun.

Speaking of fun... did I mention we're remodeling our mudroom and breezeway? I know our house is only a few years old, but we never really gave this room the TLC it needed when the house was being built. We're hanging beadboard and I can't wait to get it painted with hooks, shelves and benches.  Merry Christmas to me!

Damn Good Dawg

Thank goodness the girls were back on their best behavior today!
One of my favorite things about the Holiday season is slowing down a little and smelling the sugar cookies! I picked the girls up early from school today and we flew home to make cookies.

I use the term "make" loosely! These were even cut out for us!

Addie waited at the oven door as if these were some sort of gourmet goodness from Pineland Bakery. Notice she's still sporting the G from the weekend ball game! Gonna have to take a loofah to that tonight!

All in all it was a good day.

And another thing...
Larry Munson, the voice of the Georgia Bulldogs passed away today. I was among thousands of others who grew up listening to his gravelly voice on my daddy's radio. Truly, even though my parents are both Georgia alumni, I think it was those Saturdays listening to Larry that forged my path to Athens and solidified my spot amongst the Georgia faithful. God Bless him. He was a damn good Dawg. I've put up a Georgia Christmas tree in my study for the last few years and last year the lights were so persnickitty I threw it out. So this year I'm a tree short and I had fleeting thoughts of not doing a Georgia tree. However, with our SEC East win, and in honor of Larry, I am going to hunker it down ONE MORE TIME! Just have to venture out to buy a tree this week. Have a good week everyone. Clean your house (even if your husband calls you OCD and crazy), burn a holiday candle, bake cookies (even if they're pre-packaged and pre-cut), and enjoy this week holiday week. I always try to soak up as much of Thanksgiving as I can since the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas is pure tee nuttiness. Have a wonderful week everyone!

Payback can be a #$%#

This morning we were up early, anticipating a trip to Athens to see the Lady Dawgs take on the Women of Troy (USC). Both teams are ranked and I was looking forward to watching the Dawgs play against a little competition! I love basketball and I love going to Athens for basketball games. The campus isn't crowded, and I just get to enjoy being in Athens. We all scurried around looking for some red and black to don for the game. Ali came down sportin' a cute UGA scarf and boots. Addie came down in her vintage shirt and a pair of truly vintage cowboy boots. Love that girl. Off we went!

We got to Athens pretty early and after lunch at Loco's we walked around campus. The weather was so nice! Addie got to run a lot of energy out on Myers Quad.

Ali Grace enjoyed seeing where I lived while at UGA. Soule was the place to be!

Soule really hasn't changed a bit! Those were the days!!

No day in Athens is complete without a visit to the UGA Trial Gardens. Pete is a horticulture nerd and we always have to check it out when we're in Athens.

We FINALLY made it to the game!

We loved the Dance Dawgs' new uniforms. Addie said last week that they looked like they were wearing their bras. I agreed. These are much better.

The pep band was fabulous of course!

I thought Maryland football had the ugliest uniforms around- but no! It seems the Women of Troy do. These were horrid. Truly difficult to look at through the whole game. I didn't even capture the neon orange and red shoes. Ugh.

Hairy, on the other hand, looked quite handsome!

And Addie wanted to tell him so....

And she didn't want Spike to feel left out...

I have no idea why he had a box on his head. If you've ever seen Spike at a UGA game, you'll know what I'm talking about.

We rounded out the day by meeting Ernie, Beth and Colten at Buffalo's. The girls loved seeing Colten even if it was just for a short time.

Now for the payback part... I know my brother and I acted like fools sometimes on family trips. I was adequately paid back today. The girls fought half way home and then Addie just whined the rest of the time. Pete was beside himself before we got home and I questioned what in the heck we must have been thinking leaving on a trip like this this morning! I don't know what was worse- Addie whining or Pete thinking that if he yells loud enough she'd STOP whining. Mom and Dad- so sorry about those trips home from Zeb's when Ern and I tried to make each other hit ourselves with our own fists. I know that drove y'all insane but it was so dang fun! I've been paid back in full.

Cousins are a Blessing!

This weekend ADDIE was the Hokie punk. She insisted on wearing her VT tee shirt even though the Hokies weren't playing.

I got these cute tees at Old Navy online! Aren't they adorable?

Early Saturday, we took off to Jesup because Pete's brother, David, was bringing Emma and Sarah to visit for the weekend. Aunt Jess had to work so she couldn't make the trip from Charlottesville. David  is in the Nurse Practitioner program at UVA and brought Pete a UVA hat, which I would not allow him to wear in the house. They spent the night at the hunting camp and enjoyed some brother time.

Emma and Addie are 6 weeks apart. They have been glued at the hip for their entire lives. Even when Emma lived far away, they were peas in a pod. I love that about them. They love each other to pieces and I hope they do forever!

Sweet Sarah thought she could do everything the "bit gulls" (big girls) could do. I really enjoyed her this weekend. I love hearing her say "Aunt Tarmen".

It was a fabulous weekend overall. The DAWGS won! The Gamecocks lost! How SWEET IT IS!
