I know it sounds crazy but the last couple of afternoons around here have been heavenly. Testing week means no homework and having no homework changes the entire mood of our house! I picked the girls up from school today and we came home with nothing to do! Pete had to work late so it was a girls night, which we're getting quite used to lately.
Addie has a sinus crud and didn't feel well when I picked her up from school. She wanted to sit in my bed and be fed grapes like the Queen of Sheba. She also wanted to listen to her snowglobe that plays "Hark the Herald Angels Sing", one of her all time favorite songs, second only to Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire". I remember when we were moving from Rincon, my mama came to help pack up some things and Addie cried the entire way to Vidette unless we played Ring of Fire. She would scream RING FIRE MAMA!! She knew all the words by heart. Ali was so annoyed with her and I was annoyed with Johnny Cash at that point, but it didn't matter. Hearing that song 35 times was much easier to endure than her screaming! Hard to believe she was only 3 when we moved here.
She seemed to feel better later in the evening and wanted to go ride her bike. She's so proud of herself for learning to ride a bike with no training wheels and that she can start and stop by herself! That makes Mama happy too! However, on her last turn when she was doing what appeared to be about 40 mph around a sandy curve in our driveway, she bit the dust. Literally. Bit it. Dirt in the mouth. Scraped elbows. You get the picture. She cried for a minute but just like being bucked off a horse, you've gotta get back on to let 'em know who's boss! She got back on the bike and rode that thing for another hour. I think she had something to prove!
The girls and I are looking forward to some girl time watching American Idol tonight! Can't wait!
