I'll Take the Dirt Road

This weekend was just about perfect. The girls played great in their basketball games..
This is a picture of Ali's team. They are the sweetest bunch of girls.

Ali Grace won the Offense Award for her team this week!

Addie Belle had a great game too. She got a "hoop"! Which means she scored a basket. She plays on the boys team and they're all a bunch of ball hogs so she's always happy when she has the opportunity to score.

Friday night my Daddy took us out to Coleman Lake for supper. Pete was out of town with the horse judging team so the girls and I batted our eyelashes enough and convinced him to take us out! :)
Ali had crab legs. She eats as many crab legs as a grown man I swear.
Addie wanted to order crab legs too but I have a family rule that you don't order crab legs until you can crack them yourself. Of course Nanny knows no rules when it comes to grandchildren so she ordered them and Nanny cracked them for her.

I had the North Carolina Flounder special. It wasn't something I'd order again but it was very good lemon grilled. The hush puppies were out of this world good and the service was excellent.

But Sunday was by far the best of all. I know we need the rain and so it was hard to be grumpy when I saw the weather report which showed a massive wall of rain heading this way for the next couple days. But thank goodness today was just gorgeous. Addie wanted to ride the horses so bad she about drove us all crazy until we relented!  There was a cool breeze and the sun was shining most of the day. Couldn't have asked for much better.

And that brings me to some VERY happy news I need to tell everyone who hasn't heard! Pete's brother, David and his family are moving to Fort Gordon! We thought they were heading to Germany after David finished his Nurse Practicioner licensure at UVA but turns out it's Augusta instead! We are just over the moon! They haven't lived that close to each other since they were roommates in college. I suppose I should be a little worried though since the last time the two of them were together here at my house, they were target shooting with some sort of something another I don't know about and it caused an explosion that shook the windows of our NEIGHBOR'S house! We live in the sticks! We don't have close neighbors. But the one semi-close neighbor we DO have came flying over to The Big House  across the road thinking there was some terrible accident at the farm. Nope. Just the Bennett boys. It turns out 4 Bennetts on a dirt road are fine. Five exceeds the critical mass and then it all goes down hill. So anyhow, I think the Pete was a little disappointed that David and Jess want to live in a more "metropolitan" area than Vidette, and close to Augusta. I just reminded him that the sticks aren't for everyone and that he should count himself a blessed man that he married a girl who loves clean country livin'!  Any closer than 30 miles from Augusta is out of the question for this girl.

So back to today.. Addie was confident she could catch a horse herself so she headed out on a mission... that's how Addie heads out everywhere.. like she is on a mission.

She was a little disappointed that her daddy had already caught the horse. She is always up for a little danger like a stampede or something. She's usually disappointed when we won't let her risk her life doing something.

Addie is the rodeo cowgirl type and Ali Grace is the graceful quiet rider in the family. Addie makes you cringe when she rides by a ditch or something because you just know any minute she could give that horse a kick and be jumping the ditch. Ali Grace is so quiet when she rides, you barely know she's there.

Roxy the wonder dog had to  be put in the back of the gator so she didn't get stepped on. She has a penchant for running around under the horses' feet.

Definitely can't do this in the suburbs...

We finally got the saddles and tack put away and pretty much laid around the rest of the afternoon.

My riding helmet... the only thing I can still wear from college!  :)

My heart skipped a beat when I saw the first daffodils coming up. Spring is around the corner!

We're headed over to the Big House this evening since Poppy is throwing some chicken on the grill.
You city folks just don't know what you're missing.
